Power bar

Our graphical element called “Power bar” communicates several things at the same time. It reminds a charging bar indicator and symbolises balance. It also contains a subtle message of being back on our Nordic roots when Fortum´s logo was blue and green. The Power bar is always used on top of a photograph on the left side of the canvas. It has 70% opacity throughout to have the photo’s details shine through the bar.

The Power bar is made with two colours.

The first and the largest part is at the bottom of the bar. It should always be in Powering green. The top part of the bar is made with our secondary colour, Broad blue. The ratio between the colours of the bar can vary as this gives the design more liveliness. The Power bar is always in vertical format and positioned on the left.

Power bar sizing

The Power bar’s height is always the same as the canvas size.

The Power bar’s width is determined with Fortum logo. The Power bar is primarily 1x or in cases where a wider solution is necessary, 2x wide. The value x is derived from the height of Fortum logo’s typeface’s x-height, which is the lowercase letters height disregarding ascenders and descenders.

If Fortum logo isn’t present in the visuals, for example in social media posts, the value x is still calculated with the logo in mind. The logo can be left out, when necessary, but the Power bar should always have the consistent sizing and ratio in all our materials.

When a headline is present, the green part is always aligned on the same level with the headline. This means that the height of the green part can vary, which gives us a more flexible visuality.

Still, never drop the green part below 50% of the total height of the bar, as this would make the Power bar look empty or uncharged.

If a headline isn’t present in the visuals, the height of the green part can vary and be anything between 50-85% of the total height.

In videos the green part can start lower than 50% and reach the full 100% as this represents the charging process.

The Power bar and typography

The Power bar functions well with our bold headline style.

The Power bar’s green part is always leveled with the headline’s cap line. The headline is distanced 2x from the Power bar.

Power bar in videos

The use of the Power bar follows the same rules in the videos as in other materials. As before, the Power Bar’s width is determined by the Fortum logo. The Power Bar’s width in video materials is primarily 1x. The value x is derived from the height of Fortum logo’s typeface’s x-height, which is the lowercase letters height disregarding ascenders and descenders.

The only difference in the video materials to the still materials is that the text is aligned to the left vertical column instead of 1x or 2x away from the bar. In videos the Power Bar’s green part can start lower than 50 % and reach the full 100 % as this represents the charging process.
